Caroline's Biography

Local campaigns

A dedicated constituency MP, Ms Flint has campaigned vigorously, since 1997, on local causes. Her campaigning successes include:

Finningley Airport:

Outside of parliament, Caroline Flint has lobbied locally and regionally to build support for an international airport at Doncaster. She gave evidence at Doncaster MBC's public hearings and at the public inquiry. She made written several submissions to the planning process including many suggestions for protecting those residents living closest to the airport. In April 2003, Finningley Airport was given the go-ahead, the first new international airport in the UK since Stansted opened.

Crime:

A longstanding campaign for tough action in response to antisocial behaviour in her constituency. Doncaster now has a dedicated Antisocial Behaviour team targeting persistent anti-social neighbours.

Environment:

The six year campaign to end peat extraction on Thorne & Hatfield Moors (Hatfield Moors is in Caroline's constituency). The Government confirmed that peat extraction at Hatfield will end by autumn 2004.

Employment rights:

A six-year campaign with members of ISTC - the Community Union, to achieve recognition at Polypipe. In December 2003, a ballot of shopfloor workers voted 392 to 68 in favour of recognition. Over 1,000 employees now have union recognition.

Helped resident in Austerfield achieve a 30mph speed limit through their village.

Supported former coal miners and their families to receive fair compensation under the Government's scheme, and opposed solicitors or unions who took success fees or other payments from the compensation received for crippling illnesses. To date, over 366,000 mineworkers and their families have received over £1.9billion - the largest publicly funded compensation scheme
in the world.
