Hill Top
Primary School
"Top +of the Class!" says MP
School listed 8th of top 100 most improved schools
"Top of the class!" was
the verdict of Don Valley MP
Caroline Flint MP after news that Edlington Hill Top
School
is one of the country's most improved schools.
The latest report from the Department
for Children Schools
and Families confirms that Hill Top is eighth among
the top
100 most improved schools in the country at Key Stage
2
measured over the past three years.
"By any standard, Hill Top Primary
can be very proud that
their improvement in standards over the past three years
is among the most sustained of any school in the country.
"This is a remarkable turn around
for a school that in 2003
was in Special Measures. Headteacher Beryce Nixon, her
staff and governors should be very proud of the progress
the school has made.
"What is particularly special
about this accolade is that it is
not a one-year good result. It is progress made over
three years.
The parents and pupils should take great pride in the
improvement their school has shown.
"I hope Doncaster can spread
the lessons of their improvement
to other schools who have struggled to improve standards."
The Don Valley MP has written with
her congratulations
to the head and is arranging to visit in the near future.
Hill Top Primary was one of
the first extended schools in Doncaster, providing breakfast
and homework clubs at each end of the school day. After
school activities include an art and craft club, athletics,
cookery, ICT and cheerleading activities.
