Caroline
Flint appointed to the Privy Council
31 January 2008
The Privy Council
dates back to the earliest days of the monarchy when
it comprised those appointed by the King or Queen to
advise on matters of state.
Today, by convention
past and present Cabinet members and some senior Ministers
are appointed, but the membership, which stands at over
400, includes UK Ambassadors, Speakers of the House
of Commons, former Prime Ministers, Leader's of the
Opposition and other leading figures.
Caroline Flint
said:
"It is a great honour to
be appointed to the Privy Council. I hope that in my
new position as Housing Minister I can justify the honour
conferred by this title."
Caroline Flint MP now takes on the
title The Rt Hon Caroline Flint MP.
