Caroline Flint backs more services
at the Post Office
4 December 2009
Don Valley MP Caroline Flint has called for new financial
products and services to be made available from the
Post Office.
Caroline said: "Post Offices are a great British
institution that has been part of our communities for
over three hundred years. I know how deeply people in
Don Valley care about the future of our Post Offices
and I have fought to defend and promote our village
Post Offices. So I want to see more financial services
at the Post Office.
It will give people in Doncaster access to a full range
of banking products at an institution we trust and value.
"I want to hear your views on this. I will be
getting in touch with as many people in Don Valley as
possible, but if you want to get in touch about this
please email flintc@parliament.uk
or ring my office on 623330 for more information.
The Don Valley MP will be seeking the views of local
post offices, parish councils, TARAs and post office
card account customers.
Pat McFadden MP, Minister of State for Business, Innovation
and Skills said: "At a time when some banks and
financial services companies are seeking to reduce face
to face contact with customers, the Post Office stands
out. It offers a trusted brand and has more branches
than the high street banks combined. It is ideally placed
to bring banking services back to the heart of people's
communities."
Lord Mandelson, Secretary of State for Business said:
"Our consultation outlines exciting proposals,
but I want people to have their say. This is an opportunity
for local communities to tell us what they want and
need from their Post Office. Information about the consultation
will be available in all of the network's 11,500 branches."
