Caroline Flint comment on Link Road
2 December 2004
Responding to the Mayor's decision,
Don Valley MP Caroline Flint said:
"I will be studying the Mayor's
statement and having detailed discussions with Mayor
Winter following his decision. It is vital that the
route is planned carefully to respond to the many concerns
residents have raised."
Ms Flint welcomed the choice of M18
Junction 3. "I have always backed a link from Junction
3. This was by no means a certainty, as some people
believed, so I am glad the case for Junction 3 has been
won.
"It is vital to secure Government
and Objective One funding for this road, both for Rossington
and the villages closest to the airport. Only then,
and once all planning objections are overcome, can the
link road that Rossington has wanted for generations
actually come to pass. It can take six or seven years
to build a new road, so time is of the essence."
The MP welcomed the Mayor's letter
to residents. "It is vital that residents are kept
informed at all stages. I will be taking up the many
issues raised by residents, particularly those who will
live nearest to the proposed road."
Ms Flint said that all comments
from her survey would be fed into the planning process.
The MP surveyed every Rossington household. Approximately,
300 Rossington residents had also been consulted in
the recent MORI poll.
