MP's praise for Branton St Wilfred's school

6 December 2005

Caroline Flint was full of praise for Branton St Wilfred's C of E School when she congratulated them on receiving the Basic Skills Quality Mark.

Said Ms Flint: "The Basic Skills Quality Mark is proof positive that the Head, staff and governors of St Wilfred's are getting it right, building from the basics. The school's excellent 100% SAT results are further evidence of what an excellent school this is.

"Mrs Crayton is obviously a marvellous headteacher and I was impressed by the organisation and atmosphere in the school. St Wilfred's fully deserves their place as one of top two hundred schools in England.

The Don Valley MP also met pupils who were raising money for the Sri Lanka Tsunami Appeal by making crucifix key rings for sale. Said Ms Flint: "The crucifix key rings were delightful and pupils who have made the crucifixes have asked me to present one to the Prime Minister."

Ms Flint has already sent the key ring to the Prime Minister. The accompanying letter tells the Prime Minister what a good school St Wilfred's is. "The Government's investment in two learning support assistants, four teaching assistants, an extra part-time teacher and 34 computers, and five whiteboards is money well spent at St Wilfred's. It is only right that the Prime Minister should hear of schools doing an excellent job with the extra resources they are given."
