MP joins community centre opening

22 February 2005

Caroline Flint joined Dunsville residents this week to celebrate the opening of the Dunsville Community Centre after £275,000 of rebuilding.

Said Ms Flint: "This new-look centre is a remarkable achievement by the Centre Committee. The centre has been almost completely rebuilt, and the extended hall, computer room and kitchen are really impressive."

The Don Valley MP singled out Alan Robson, the Committee Chair, Barrie Richmond, Secretary, and Committee members Cynthia Brownsword and Jeff Bloor for special praise.

"I know that a few people have shouldered the burden of this project, but all residents will appreciate the result. I am also delighted that the Rural Target Fund was able to meet half of the cost and the Big Lottery the remainder."

At the second attempt the Committee secured £137,000 from the Big Lottery matched by £137,000 from the Government's Rural Target Fund, which distributes money on behalf of Objective One and Defra to rural communities. The centre also received £5,000 from Hatfield Town Council.
