MP shows support for MAD week
9 February 2005
Sprotbrough resident and local
MP, Caroline Flint, joined community safety wardens
and police to support Make a Difference Week.
The wardens, Community First Staff
and police teamed up with an exhibition to promote crime
prevention and safe driving on Sprotbrough Main Street.
The exhibition included the of a roadside speed detector
gun used to monitor traffic speed.
Said Caroline: "Make a Difference
Week is an important and welcome Council initiative.
It also shows the important public information role
played by Community First and the Community Safety Wardens.
"It was wonderful to see the
exhibition with useful tips and products to help make
your home safe from crime. We have had a number of shed
burglaries in Sprotbrough. Simple devices like door
chimes can be fitted to shed and garage doors to warn
householders if someone has opened a door."
PC John Richardson also showed the
MP how to use the pro-laser gun to monitor traffic speed
on Sprotbrough Main Street.
"The speed gun demonstration
reinforced an important message to children about how
dangerous it can be for cars to exceed 30mph in built
up areas. I am pleased to say that not one of the cars
monitored during my visit exceeded the speed limit."
