Tories out of touch on Cleaner Neighbourhoods
says MP
8 February 2005
Caroline Flint says: "This
Government is tackling crime and antisocial behaviour
head on. Record police numbers, 12,500 more thanks to
Labour, including 200 more in South Yorkshire, backed
by 5,000 new Community Support Officers are tackling
anti-social behaviour in our communities.
"This Bill delivers powers that
councils and parishes have asked for. Tackling antisocial
behaviour is not just a policing issue, it is a matter
for councils and parishes too.
"New powers to remove abandoned
cars immediately, to gate nuisance alleyways, to deal
with fly-tipping and litter are extra steps in the battle
for cleaner neighbourhoods. Fixed penalty notices for
these litter offences are quick, simple and work. Is
my opponent really saying that the Tories oppose this?"
In order that residents can
make up their own minds,
the Don Valley MP has placed details of the Bill on
her website www.carolineflint.co.uk, and welcomes residents'
views.
