Flint leads
Parliamentary campaign for FARRRS
17 July 2006
Caroline Flint and her fellow MPs
step up their campaign for a Government decision on
FARRRS this week with a parliamentary debate, and on
Wednesday 19 July the Don Valley MP will lead a high
level delegation of Rosie Winterton, Jeff Ennis, Ed
Miliband and Mayor Martin Winter to press the case with
Transport Minister Stephen Ladyman.
Caroline Flint said: "We want
the Minister to know that FARRRS is not a slip road
to an airport, it is one of the most important transport
and regeneration schemes in Yorkshire. It will bring
many jobs within easy reach, and is the key to helping
the airport reach its potential. It just needs the green
light from the Minister and detailed work can begin."
The MPs and Mayor will tell the Minister
that Robin Hood Airport is one of the fastest growing
airports in the UK, but will be constrained if its does
not have rapid motorway access.
If the Minister gives clearance, known
as programme entry, Doncaster MBC will be able to recruit
a project partner to do the design and build.
Said Ms Flint: "As a constituency
MP, I have always seen FARRRS as good news for Rossington
residents and for the villages closest to the airport.
I hope that in villages like Blaxton, Finningley and
Auckley residents will show their support for FARRRS."
If Ministerial approval is granted,
a planning application is expected to come before Doncaster
Planning Committee in the Spring of 2007.
