Tribute to Kevin Hughes

18 July 2006

Caroline Flint's tribute to Kevin Hughes, who died on Sunday 16 July, after a long illness:

"Kevin Hughes achieved a lot for Doncaster North during his 13 years in Parliament. He was proud to have served in the Government, and was overjoyed that his ambitions for Doncaster to have an airport were fulfilled while he was an MP, and his efforts to save Thorne & Hatfield Moors were successful. Lynda and his family can take comfort from all that he accomplished for local people.

"When I was first elected, I learned so much about how parliament worked from Kevin. He was an honest, no nonsense Labour MP and a trusted colleague."

Kevin Hughes, MP for Doncaster North from 1992 - 2005, served as a Government Whip in the Labour Government from 1997 - 2001.
