6 July 2006

Don Valley MP Caroline Flint is visiting St Albans RC Primary School, which recently received the Arts Council of England Gold Artsmark.

Said Ms Flint: "This award reflects St Albans serious commitment to the arts and the arts opportunities provided for pupils both in and out of school.

"I am sure this emphasis on the arts increases pride and self-esteem among pupils, and offers new opportunities for professional development of teachers."

Ms Flint will be talking to pupils at the school assembly and then will be given a tour of the school along with local councillors Chris Mills and Sandra Holland.

St Albans celebrated a second success this month when it won grant of £4,400 from the Big Lottery Fund to run football sessions at lunchtime and after school.
