MP welcomes opening of
St Leger Horse Park

21 July 2008

Caroline Flint has welcomed the opening of the St Leger Horse Park.

Attending the grand VIP opening with special guest Jenny Pitman, Caroline said: "The opening of the St Leger Horse Park and Visitor Centre to the public is a tribute to the vision and determination of Colin Wedd and Jim Gale CE of the South Yorkshire Training Trust. They have built a unique establishment serving the racing industry right here in Doncaster.

Welcoming the public access to the horse park, Caroline said: "This opening is the start of a new era for the Northern Racing College and for Doncaster. The St Leger Horse Park is Doncaster's first country park - a setting where any member of the public can come and walk, cycle or ride horses into acres of open countryside. We should treasure this park and make good use of it."

Commenting on the opening of the new visitor centre and exhibition centre, Cllr Sandra Holland, Chair of Doncaster's Overview and Scrutiny Committee said: "It was a privilege to be in the company of Jenny Pitman an icon for women in the racing industry, who gave her time to open the Horse Park today.

"The visitor centre, café and interactive exhibition area are the cornerstone of a new public country park. This park symbolises Doncaster's role at the heart of the racing industry. This is a proud day."
