Caroline Flint opens Children's Play Park
at Rossington Children's Centre

5 June 2007

Don Valley MP Caroline Flint opened the new play park adjacent to the Rossington Children's Centre on Saturday. The Don Valley MP will was then given a tour of the Children's Centre by the Acting Manager, Ailsa Johnson.

Said Ms Flint: "The Labour Government is keen to establish Children's Centres in every community, so I was delighted that in addition to extending the building to locate a 41 place nursery at the Rossington Children's Centre, the Government has also funded the refurbishment of the play park."

Ms Flint and local councillors Barry Johnson and Andrea Milner also praised parents' campaigner Rachel Platts who campaigned for the park.

Said Barry: "We have to take our hats off to Rachel who campaigned to improve the play park. It is just great that we have been able to deliver a great play area for younger children so close to the Centre."

Rachel said: "This has been a big effort and a long time coming, but it goes to show that if you keep going, we can make a difference in our community for all families."

Said Cllr Andrea Milner: "This centre and the park are another example of the improvements that are making our village better. I hope all children and young people will respect the new park so the equipment lasts."

Said Caroline: "I hope more families will get to know the many activities and services available for parents with young children, here on their doorstep in Rossington."

The Sure Start Children's Centre is on the site of the former Rossington Family Centre, and became a Sure Start after a £813,000 Government investment to extend the building. The Centre is home to the Building Blocks Day Nursery, which was previously based at the Miners Welfare.
