Caroline Flint welcomes new allotments
23 June 2009
Caroline Flint joined local residents at the Edlington
Gala on Saturday and praised the local town council
and businesses who support the community.
Ms Flint singled out a £1,700 grant from Edlington
Town Council to the Edlington Group 5A Allotments and
Community Gardens Association, which has brought disused
land back into use as 16 new allotments.
Said Ms Flint: "The Town Council's generosity
has enabled more people to get involved in running allotments,
making good use of local land and producing healthy
local food. Eddie and Steve Hanks and many other volunteers
are making a real difference.
"Allotments are becoming even more popular as
people want an enjoyable, healthy way to produce local
food, surrounded by other people with the same passion.
Allotments are for everyone, you don't need to be an
expert - there are plenty of people like Eddie and Steve
on hand to advise you."
"The Association is always fundraising to develop
new allotments. Any local businesses that want to help
will always be welcomed."
The Edlington Group 5A Allotments and Community Gardens
Association manage over 60 of the allotments in the village.
To enquire about one of the new allotments or to offer
support to the Association, please contact Steve Hanks

MP welcomes Wates fundraising for
Bike Project
Caroline Flint has praised Wates Living Space and their employee Chris French for the £600 raised for the Edlington Motorcycle Project, run by the Edlington neighbourhood Watch with support from their Safer Neighbourhood Team. Chris did a sponsored bike ride from Hoyland to the Edlington Gala, and the money raised was matched by Wates Living Space.
Said Caroline: "Well done to Wates and to Chris French
for getting on his bike for a good cause. The Motorcycle
Project is fantastic and Maureen Tennyson, Margaret Adamson
and PC Simon Kirkham know how much I admire their efforts
for young people locally. This is great example of businesses
supporting young people and the local community."
