MP presses
for future for Rossington Colliery
31 March 2006
Don Valley
MP Caroline Flint has pledged to continue her efforts
to save Rossington Colliery from closure.
The Don Valley MP said: "This
day has been coming for a few months, but it makes it
no easier for any one who has seen the strides this
colliery has made since it re-opened twelve years ago.
There is a capable workforce and large reserves of coal,
but everyone knows that the colliery has been starved
of the necessary investment - and it has been an uphill
struggle.
"It is important that a
role for this colliery in meeting our country's energy
needs is recognised by UK Coal, future investors and
by Government."
