Norma Tells Tony "you're the best PM ever"

19 March 2007

One of Dunscroft's most dynamic citizens, Norma Sturrock, had the chance to meet Prime Minister Tony Blair this week and told him "Tony, you're the best PM ever".

The Prime Minister met Mrs Sturrock, who runs the St Lawrence Community Centre in Dunscroft, at the Labour Party's Gala Dinner in Leeds.

Said Norma; "I have been looking forward to this event for weeks, but I nearly fainted when the Prime Minister walked up to me to say hello. I told him straight "you're the best PM ever. Your government has done wonders for older people, particularly the free bus travel."

Speaking after their meeting Norma said: "When I look at the new schools and health centres being built in Doncaster, the thousands of new jobs and the shortest NHS waiting times ever, I know what a difference Tony Blair has made. And I remember what a state the country was in ten years ago."

Mrs Sturrock also met Labour Party Chair, Hazel Blears who attended as guest of Don Valley MP Caroline Flint.

Hazel Blears said: "I know and the Prime Minister knows that the Labour Party has come this far because of the dedication of thousands of Labour Party members who actively support us and take our message into the community. Norma is one of those stalwart members."

Said Caroline Flint: "It was great for Norma and other members to meet Tony Blair, Hazel Blears and other politicians who are taking tough decisions day in day out to make Britain a stronger, prosperous country. Those of us who have the privilege to serve in Government know it wouldn't happen without people like Norma and the millions of people who want us to do the best for the country."
