MP presents Princess Diana
Memorial Awards to McAuley pupils

12 November 2004

Don Valley MP Caroline Flint was on hand this week to present six pupils from The McAuley Catholic High School their Princess Diana Awards for outstanding contributions to the school community.

The pupils were being rewarded for their involvement in the Buddies system, part of the school's anti-bullying programme. The pupils gave time each week for other pupils with worries to talk to them about any problems, rather than go through a member of staff.

Said Caroline: "Bullying is something that often goes unseen, yet can have a huge impact on a pupil's quality of life. Anyone who has been on the receiving end of bullying knows what a terrifying ordeal it can be. The Buddies scheme is an excellent initiative and the pupils who have won their Princess Diana Awards have made an important contribution to school life. They should be very proud of themselves."
