Caroline launches Labour's
new Yorkshire campaign poster
29 November 2004
Home Office Minister Caroline
Flint unveiled Labour's new 'Yorkshire is working' campaign
today in Leeds with the launch of a poster van.
Caroline Flint MP launched the new
poster van to highlight Labour's record on improving
the region and the Party's plans for the future of the
region.
Said Caroline "Britain
is working with 2 million more jobs, and unemployment
at its lowest level since 1975. Unlike the divided Britain
of the Tory years, every region is working better and
Yorkshire & the Humber region is a splendid example."
The Yorkshire & Humber region has seen:
- A 53% drop in unemployment;
over 89,000 fewer people unemployed.
- Over 95,000 people in the
region have found work through Labour's New Deal
- In this region 263 new businesses
started up each week last year.
Said Caroline: "When Michael
Howard and the Tories were last in office; interest
rates were at 15% for a whole year; inflation rose to
almost 10 per cent; 1.5 million households suffered
negative equity; 150,000 families lost their homes and
unemployment hit three million.
"The Yorkshire & the
Humber region is working. Don't let the Tories wreck
it again."
