Airport jobs growing by the day

14 October 2004

Don Valley MP Caroline Flint has welcomed the latest news of 85 new jobs at Robin Hood Airport.

Said Ms Flint: "The news of 85 new jobs created by Serviceair/Globeground is more good news for Doncaster.

"Jobs at the Robin Hood airport are growing by the day. The site is already home to over 100 companies and the airport is fast becoming a favourite of top tour operators.

"With news that Serviceair/Globeground is starting local recruitment shortly, this is more evidence that airports bring jobs to local people. It gives the lie to all those who said, it would create only a handful of jobs and those would go to people from outside."

Ms Flint is particularly pleased that over 450 of those undertaking construction jobs have been recruited locally and over 200 calls are received each week by Directions Finningley from people wishing to register places.

"The airport is already encouraging new skills with the first 14 young people starting the Advanced Modern Apprenticeship Programme in Line Maintenance Engineering." said Ms Flint.

"The Finningley site is a jewel in the crown of south Yorkshire and with business clamouring to sign up to work at Robin Hood Airport, everyone can see that Britain's newest UK is a winner."
