Caroline Flint launches £1million
drug treatment scheme for Doncaster
10 September 2004
The government-backed Criminal Justice
Interventions Programme (CJIP), which is targeting hundreds
of offenders across the borough who commit crime to
fund a drug habit, has been welcomed by Doncaster Labour
MPs.
Said Ms Flint:
"This important initiative for
Doncaster aims to take people committing crimes to fund
their drug-habit out of crime and into treatment. This
initiative is another step in our battle to break the
link between drugs and crime.
"The damage drug-related crime
does in our communities is huge. I know from experience
in my Don Valley constituency, that a person addicted
to class A drugs is a mini-crime wave. The Labour Government
is determined to reduce crime further, and for every
person we move off drugs and keep off drugs, we know
there will be fewer victims of burglary and theft."
